Anyone can apply to an MBA program, regardless of their major. However, most MBA programs require you take a few years off after college and work before applying for the MBA.

Look at http://officialmbaguide.org. There is no such MBA. Universities don't grant MBA in information systems, or MBA in finance, or MBA in marketing. MBA means Master in Business Administration. The MBA is a general degree preparing students for management positions in any level of a business, up to CEO. MBA students study accounting, finance, marketing, management, statistics, economics, strategy, policy, and other courses. Many MBA programs offer concentrations in these and many other fields, but that amounts to only 2-3 courses in your chosen field in the second year of study. Many students avoid a concentration and take a variety of elective subjects to gain a broader background. By the time you finish the first year you'll be able to decide which concentration interests you. You don't become a specialist in a field with 2-3 courses. It generally takes a year of concentrated study. That does not mean you could not earn the PMP designation after an MBA with a project management concentration. It is a tough 4-hour test but it can be done. The MBA is not like an MS degree that concentrates study in a single field and prepares students for high level staff or research positions. The MS typically requires an undergraduate education in the field in which you want the MS, or a closely related field. A finance major does not get an MS in chemistry, and a biology major does not get an MS in accounting. If you want to specialize in a particular field other than business administration, such as finance, marketing, operations management, human resource management, or a non-business field such as public health, or public administration, you should get an MS degree in that specialization. MBA programs accept students in any undergraduate field. They prefer students who do not have a business background because they give you the business training but they cannot provide the broad background that managers should have. I have taught MBA students with degrees in Music, Medicine, Dentistry, Law, Psychology, Political Science, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, and many other fields. Most MBA programs prefer students with 2-3 years work experience after the first degree, but many accept students right out of college if they have good grades and a high GMAT score. Some MBA programs are designed specifically for new college graduates without work experience. MBAs with good grades are in high demand and they command good starting salaries. The Official MBA Guide provides a lot of information about the MBA degree and MBA schools and programs. It's a comprehensive free public service with more than 2,000 MBA programs listed worldwide. It allows you to search for programs by location (US, Europe, Far East, etc.), by concentration (finance, marketing, aviation management, health management, accounting, etc.), by type of program (full-time, distance learning, part-time, executive, and accelerated), and by listing your own criteria and preferences to get a list of universities that satisfy your needs. Schools report their accreditation status, tuition cost, number of students, class sizes, program length, and a lot of other data. Schools provide data on entrance requirements, program costs, program characteristics, joint degrees, and much more. You can use the Guide to contact schools of your choice, examine their data, visit their web site, and send them pre applications. You can see lists of top 40 schools ranked by starting salaries of graduates, GMAT scores, and other criteria. It's the best service available at http://officialmbaguide.org.

I have an MBA myself. It places you above the pack of BS guys. You will get larger pay and more prestige. Many times director and above positions have an unwritten rule you must have a Masters. .

3
More education is always better, and people with Master's usually make more than people with a bachelor's only.

4
I'm going for my masters this fall simply because masters degree will get me somewhere. Bachelors degree in Information Technology means nothing with little or no experience these days. Employers want the best of the best. Masters degree is the new bachelors degree, bachelors degree is the new associates degree, and associates degree is the new high school diploma. At least it seems that way anymore.

Most of the event planners I know (quite a few) got certificates in event planning from a college. I'm not sure where you live, but I know a school like NYU (New York City) has a "certificate" program, which consists of about 6 courses in the subject. At the end you get a certificate, which from a school like NYU, has some meaning.

It will make a great deal of difference where you got the degree. If you have a degree from Oxford, fine. If you have a degree from the Moldavian State Agricultural College for Women that will be much more problematic. It will also matter whether you just have the degree or if you have the degree plus business experience. You might want to inquire directly with the office of admission of the university or universities you are interested in. Or shop around a bit at www.aucc.ca which is the main portal for all things to do with university education in Canada. Good luck.

The country of the MBA program is really not that important as much as the accreditation. These three accreditations are very important - AMBA, AACSB and EQUIS. Which ever program you apply to, make sure it has at least one of these accreditations. Then you need not be worried about the programs recognition. Have a look at their websites and select programs listed there. AACSB - http://www.aacsb.edu/ AMBA - http://www.mbaworld.com/page/welcome/... EQUIS - http://www.efmd.org/html/home.asp... What can I do with a Masters Degree In Industrial Management Technology

What can I do with a Masters Degree In Industrial Management Technology?
I have a B.S in Comp Sci, but with the way things are now in the tech industry and jobs being shiped out i am considering a master degree. I was initially considering going for a second b.s in Information Systems because it gives me some business background also but i think to really stay ahead now a masters in most likely better. I came across this program and still doing more search on it Industrial Managment or Industrial Technology with a Management and quality control concentration. it basically combines management skill with technical skills such as stat quality control, project management, engineering cost analysis, industrial psychology, prob & stat, design of experiments and get to take 3-4 MBA corses also. It is very interesting but not sure as to what i can do with it or it its is only tailored to manufacturing enviroment only?

This masters degree would be more focused on the business aspect of everything. This would be your field if you wanted to work for anyone who manufactures anything. You would occasionally do some coding or some CS problem solving, but most of that would be left to the grunts with bachelors degrees in robotics tech or industrial engineering (lowest form of engineering, beneath civil engineering). It wouldn't be very good outside of manufacturing, but the MBA courses would be helpful for any kind of business. If you really wanted to step up your technical skills, then you could go for a masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering, but then you would have to catch up on at least 2, maybe 3 or 4 semesters of math, plus circuit theory, embedded systems, and digital circuit design before you would be remotely ready for the masters program. I'm going for a bachelors in Electrical engineering, and I've got two whole years worth of specialized EE classes with no electives to go (just one extra math and one extra CS if you can count those as electives, and nothing else). There is also the masters in CS, and that might catch you up further on theory about some of the more interesting new developments in computers. But if you're really good at CS, meaning that you didn't just work off of your group's success in team projects and got A's, then chances are that your skills probably won't be outsourced as easily. It's IT that has more to worry about being outsourced.

Jobs in management. But that is up to you.

2
I wouldn`t get my hopes up if I were you . Management is becoming a dead "profession" for several reasons . "Working" managers that have been trained specificaly by their employers are taking over the jobs of management . Many firms have seen first hand the resounding success of this system in Japan , where it originated , and in many Asian countries . Companies aren`t willing to pay a manager 6 or 7 figures per year to sit at a desk and shuffle papers when they can take a production employee that is well versed in the intricacies of the department ..... pay him/her an extra $10,000 - $20,000 per year to see that everything runs smoothly .......... and be MUCH better off for it , in production , in employee loyalty and satisfaction , and especially financially ............ They`ll pay these employees to take management courses , and they`ve got themselves "working" managers who do their own work and management duties as well . If you DO get employment as a manager of some sort , it`ll most likely be in the telemarketing or direct sales areas where the company has a large number of part time management slots to fill because of the high employee turnover rates in these fields . Most other employers will fill these types of vacancies from within with the "working" manager these days ........

You should be looking for a job in which you will be responsible for the profit and loss of the company.

Of course it's a good option. But you need to provide some more info What are you comparing it to? As in, what are your other options? And what is the end goal? If you are trying to be a manager at a construction company, it's the best option. If you're simply looking for more money, then maybe go the neural surgery route instead of construction management. But the short answer is yes, it is worth getting. You will make so much more in your life time than if you went into construction managment without a masters

Masters in Management is much more focused, and will probably include a lot of courses in leadership, HR functions, organizational behavior, etc. MBA is a general degree which provides a broader focus, and will include coursework in finance, marketing, MIS, law, etc., in addition to some management classes. It is designed to give one the skills to provide upper management leadership, since such a position will require one to have at least rudimentary skills in all those critical areas.

I can't seen to find a good paying job although I have a Masters Degree in Management

I can't seen to find a good paying job although I have a Masters Degree in Management?
I retired from the military after 20 years of service in 2002. I retired as a E-5 not too impressive, but in the military I focused more in college and not so much on making stripes. While I was in the military I earned a BS degree in Aeronautical Management (3.67 GPA in 1996) and a MA degree in Management (3.64 GPA in 2000). When I retired I could not find a decent job that paid very well, I winded up in the security field, but that also doesn't pay too well . Only $15/Hr with no vacation or sick days. This is my problem: I do not have too many marketable skills let alone experience in the civilian world. I fueled and did minor repairs on aircraft while I was in the military but I dislike that type of work very much. That is why I excelled with my degrees. I wanted to start a different career but that has not transpired. I live in the San Francisco bay area (San Jose). Can anyone suggest how I can find a decent paying (18/Hr) job with no experience but with an advanced degree? Thx

You should first of all understand how the civilian sector is so much different from the military in terms of getting good jobs. In the military, the best qualified person on paper is the one who usually gets assignments. In the civilian sector, you should realize that it is ALL politics and that unless you are well connected with the right people in power then your chances are slim to none. You are basically on your own out here. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I have seen competence being bypassed by physical beauty and sexual favors, class discrimination and nepotism are the rules of the game out here. People make hiring decisions emotionally and a lot of times sexually and then reach for facts to rationalize their decisions. Your military experience is meaningless out here as well. I entered the civilian sector back in 87 after separating from the Army as an 03-E with twelve citations and an impeccable 12 year career that began as an E-1. None of that meant a damn thing in the eyes of future employers—they simply didn’t care what I brought to the table in terms of management and leadership experience but I did get an opportunity to work for a large company simply because the hiring manager was gay and thought I looked cute. Work on the subtleties of your looks and charisma because out here that is all that matters—look at politics and tell me it isn’t so. Good luck I do wish you well

2
My father in law retired from the military about ten years ago. He is stuck in the security field as well. I would suggest going to the websites listed below and post your resume.

3
Probably you will have to check with either the state or county or even the feds, at their various websites. If you have good paper (DD 214) discharge, they will give you preference for hiring in many state, federal, or municipal jobs. Now, you will need to have good references. People willing to write you a letter of reference, as well as being able to be used as a reference. Contact various people who would be willing to put in a good word for you...as well as write a good word for you. Keep in mind that we are in a recession. With your background, you may have to move to another state, so start looking for opportunities on Career Builder.com, or check with your state unemployment division for locations of state job websites in other parts of the counry. Further into the midwest, they are looking for corrections officers, mechanics, etc. at the state level. Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. You will also have to clean up your English skills. Start reading aloud to yourself, and go on line to check out (ie Yahoo) about how to handle interviews, etc. If you are a veteran of the armed forces, you get automatic preference in hiring. Figure out which field you want to enter, and go after the dream. The average time I've heard to get a new job is at least three to six months, depending upon your skill level, and type of job.

I have a BS in Biology degree that is collecting dust in my front hall closet. I got that degree to please other people in my family. Now at 28 I've decide to follow my real dreams and start my own business in the catering/restaurant business. I want to go to Culinary School but I'm a Army wife and will be living in Korea for at least three years. I'm thinking about taking class online at Argosy University for a MS in Management. The idea is to get the degree, get a job in the food industry, learn the business on their time, and pay off student loan debt until I'm ready to start my business. Argosy is an accredited school but I keep reading reviews saying it's not worth it to get an online degree. That employer don't like to hire people with online degree. And Argosy is just want your money. Plus it doesn't help that I feel really pressured by the admissions rep. at Argosy. I guess my questions are: Is it really a good idea to get an online education? Is Argosy a good school? Is getting a MS in Management to vague like my degree in Biology was?

Sure they are pressuring you. They don't get many applicants, so they don't want to lose any. This is not going to be cheap as you said. I would put it off till you return to the states. Then you can attend a real school. Hopefully it will be in-state, and not cost you an arm an leg. Be patient!

No, I think it's a good degree. But I think an MBA would be even better if you can do it. To be honest, a degree is always better than no degree at all. And more and more schools are putting classes and degrees online. so it's becoming the norm now. don't let them pressure you though. you make your own decision. there are plenty of schools you could go to and plenty of classes you could take.

As a federal employee I got an MS in Mangmt, the govt paid for 2/3 and the classes were on govt time. Which leads me to believe it is a good educational track, and it would be applicable in any occupation. An online degree from an accredited university should be acceptable for the plan you propose. And, if the alternative is to do nothing for several years in Korea, it is a very good idea. It might be good to compare some other online universities, like American Public University System, Walden University, and there are some state universities with online programs. There could be some cost differences.

Most of those types of programs are offered in executive education short courses, or in certificate programs. An MBA would not address this specifically, although you could concentrate in operations and then seek a position at a consulting company that does these types of engagements.

It depends on if you already have a job and they give you a raise if you get your Masters then it would be beneficial If you are just starting out looking for a job and you have your masters degree it may work against you, because you don't have any real world experience.

2
Personally, I would not recommend it. Despite their massive advertising campaign, the University of Phoenix online has a fairly poor reputation. Depending on your situation, I'd recommend looking into the option of part-time or evening study at a local college or university (I'm assuming you are working now and can't do full-time study...but if you can, go ahead) or some reputable distance-education programs. There are several well-respected distance education programs out there, the key is to make sure they are associated with a well established university. Regarding the school that you'd mentioned, this consumer site has many negative (red square) posts by former students: http://www.studentsreview.com and can type into search and then click 'comments' or such. The term 'media' is actually the plural of 'medium' and that apparently refers to mass communications such as newspapers, magazines, radio, or television. The 'media' also pertains to the group of journalists and others who constitute the communications industry and profession. There are other definitions at this site: http://education.yahoo.com/reference/dictionary/entry/media Before you enroll or apply to a program, it's best to think about how you would like to apply that particular degree in the workplace. This site has Accredited programs in mass communications and journalism: http://www2.ku.edu/~acejmc/STUDENT/PROGLIST.SHTML General career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search whatever career that piques one's interest. This consumer site has a couple of posts by former students about the school in which you'd inquired: http://www.ripoffreport.com and can search. For US colleges: http://www.utexas.edu/world/univ

I am at a total loss in regards to the career choices out there in this field. I really want to focus on special event planning but there are no jobs out there for special events. Depending on your financial situation, if someone offers you a job, you might want to take it. Especially if benefits are offered. But, please refer all of your unwanted jobs to me!

"Those that I found want you to start from the bottom." I think that you'll find this to be true in most career fields today. Has to do with supply and demand. The supply of workers greatly exceeds the number of jobs. So, employers pay nothing for labor. Want a suggestion? sell your stuff, sell your house, sell everything you own, bury the money, and don't tell anyone where it is. Then, march down to the welfare office and get yourself on the government nipple. If you'd like additional input regarding this question, shoot me an email.

How long does it take to get a masters degree in business management

How long does it take to get a masters degree in business management?
I'm just wondering how long it takes from freshman year as an under grad all the way through. By the way, I have like 50 credits be I'm in my sophomore year. I also average 15 credits a semester.
Higher Education (University +) - 2 Answers

At my university, it takes 124-126 credits to graduate with your bachelor's degree so that is about 15 hours per semester +4 more (which I'm taking 17 hours this semester to make up for it). 40 of which must be 300+ level (at least at my university). In graduate school, it should be no more than 2 years. So from freshman to masters, about 6 years.

2
you CAN get a BBA done in 3 years, but why rush? Many MBA programs are 36 credits and they CAN be done in as little as a year.......not advisable though as you sacrifice your life (no time for work, fun etc)

industrial engineers are in great demand in gulf countries as well as in indian manufacturing firms as well as academics to conduct work measurement and operation research to make things faster and to increase productivity of the organisation,. You can opt for M tech in IEM from JNTU Hyderabad.

2
A master in industrial engineering will make you an industrial engineer with a higher level of competency in the field. People pursuing a academical careers will aim to a get a master in IE. However, IE departments usually offers a Master degree in Engineering management. This type of degree is aimed to people pursuing career in highly techinical managerial positions. For example, an Operation manager of a phamaceutical plant, a Cheif engineer position an automovile supplier plant. Any business that depends a lot on the engineering effort will most likely seek someone with an engineering management background. Military contractors such as Raytheon, Honeywell...etc. are example of employers with a high degree of engineering need.

What other Masters Degree options do I have w/a Business Management bachelors degree?
I will be graduating in May w/a degree in Business Management w/concentration in Finance and minor in Human Resources and Accounting. I want to get my master's but it seems that an MBA is an option for only current professionals. Do I have any other options? I see that others with bachelors other than Business get an MBA.

WOW !! you have alot of options ! Since you have minor in HR, ACC you could do Msc in Human Resources or MSc in Accounting ( Yet for the accounting, it depends on the university requirements) Also your degree can do : - Msc in Business Management - Msc in Business Studies - International Business Management ( some universities) - Msc in Business Entrepreneurship Management ( 100% all uni) ( it's how to start your own business) - Msc Risk Management ( 100 % sure) - Msc operation Management ( some universities) - Msc Project management ( 100% sure) and the list goes on and on .. that's all I can remember right now. About MBA, don't you know that MBA has concentrations, ask universities, you can have any stream in : MBA in Finance 100% MBA in Accounting 100% MBA in HE 100% MBA in Leadership 100% MBA in 100% in all concentrations Also there is: IMBA = (I) is international so international MBA you have alot of choices, and if you want to work in a company you could take MBA in any concentration. If you want to make your own business take Msc in Entrepreneurship Management. It's all up to you ! Check the university requirements, I know you will have more than this list I gave you

Masters degree (Management information systems) with database concentration

Masters degree (Management information systems) with database concentration?
Hi, I have a bachelors degree in business degree but want to get Ms degree in MIS with database concentration. I am an international student and am looking for school in New York or New Jersey area. The cost should not be higher then $6000 per semester for 12 credits at the college that will be of interest. Other important factor to consider is accreditation of the college. Also, are international students allowed to enroll in online classes ? I know one college in NY,TOURO COLLEGE, that has pretty good MIS degree, but I dont think this college degree would even get me an interview after graduation. I know some colleges entirely offer degrees through online classes.Hope to hear from you guys. PS.I know most colleges have outdated, old curriculum for computer science or Mis degrees. Thanks

Well, what you pay is what you get (+ or -).. So don't expect a lot when you've limited budget and quite sctrict spec. MIS of for that matter any graduate course, doesnt focus on one subject matter but a 'general' study. if you want database concentration the best would be to go for industry certification (e.g. Oracle DBA etc)

2
If I understand you correctly, you need to maintain your F-1 status as well as getting a Masters. You won't get F-1 status for on line study obviously so I wonder if I have this wrong. Cheap schools in the NY/NJ area that have reasonable Masters programmes in this area are NYIT, Rutgers and CUNY. City College has just launched a new MIS course (registration open till the end of May) with a good database component but unfortunately the classes are in the evenings so it is not F-1 eligible. You might want to see if there is a work around as it is in your price range.
