Can I get my masters degree in something different from my Bachelor's

Can I get my masters degree in something different from my Bachelor's?
I just graduated with my Management Information systems degree but I changed my mind at the last minute. I really want to do something in graphic design. But I didn't follow my desire and went with the dreams of someone else. Now that I got older and grabbed a hold of myself. How can get my masters in Graphic design or something related to Visual Arts. I just mess around with art but never thought of it as a career till now. Is it possible. HElp me thanks! :D

Yes, in fact many people go on to do just that. You might be at a bit of a disadvantage in that you may lack the core courses, but you can take the ones you need. For example, when I was a biology undergrad, I worked in a lab with some other undergrads and some grad students. One lady had her BS in something like History or English or something like that. But she was in a Masters program for biology. She had to take the courses she didn't have. I think she did most of them at a local community college (they're usually called pre-requisites). But yes, it IS possible, not easy, not cheap, but if it's what YOU want, you will find a way to do it. Email some grapic design program directors at some universities and ask them what pre-reqs are needed to get into their programs. Then you'll have a starting point. Make sure you mention that your undergrad work was not in graphic design, but in MIS instead.

You can but you might have to take some prerequisite undergrad courses before you start the Master's course.

What is you're opinion on a master degree in Project Management from Boston University Online - Good or Not

What is you're opinion on a master degree in Project Management from Boston University Online - Good or Not?
I am looking at taking a Master's Program from a regionally accredited university (Boston University) in Project Management. It would be a Master's of Science in Project Management as the full title. It's not an 'MBA' but it does have similar subject matter within it's curriculum. It costs $38,000 in comparison to nearly $50K for an MBA. My question is - Is it worth it? Would this be looked upon favorablyby a potential employer.

Ask yourself this. You need somebody to manage a multi-million dollar project. Would you hire somebody who got their degree on-line?

I'm 18 and in April/May of 2007 I'll have an Associates degree if I stay in school a little longer in December 2008 I'll have a Bachelors degree in Health Care Management. I'll only be 20 and I'm trying to get all this school out the way now. What kinds of Masters degrees can I get? Is there anything higher than a Masters that I can earn in this field?

Wow - congrats that's a real achievement! When I was looking for a Masters program I did a lot of searches on the internet and found one that met my criteria for a Masters in Technical Communications. I would not limit myself to looking in just Health Care as you may find something related in an MBA Program with a Health Care Focus, or you may want to look at a Masters of Health Care Information if you like IT. Since you are completing all the education at once you may need to take an entrance exam like the GRE. Best you - you've got a lot of time to find the right program -

There are masters programs in public health (MPH), public policy (MPP), public administration (MPA) and health administration (MHA). I did a MPH in epidemiology/biostatistics. I admit I am not especially experienced in health care management -- all I know is that I don't like it (nothing against you, though -- it's just an ugly system). UC Berkeley has a dual degree program in MPP/MPH through their School of Public Health and Goldman School of Public Policy. I love Berkeley, and their program is very, VERY good. The program takes 3 years to complete. USC (where I did my grad degree) has degree programs for MHA and MPH. They are very good about letting students craft special degrees, so I am sure with some negotiation, you could do dual MPH/MHA. I did my MPH in 3 semesters, so I'm sure fitting a MHA in there wouldn't be that much more time-consuming.

There are very few universities near me so I am thinking about completing grad school online. What are some well known and valued schools I could attend? Looking for a degree in communications, management, leadership...something along those lines. Thanks!

Hi! Wherever you go, make sure that the institution is accredited... otherwise, your degree won't mean a whole lot to employers. Have you looked into American Public University? Classes are all online, and super flexible, and APU is both regionally and nationally accredited. It's also quite a bit cheaper than other online universities. They have a Master's in Management: http://www.apu.apus.edu/academic/programs/degree/106/master-of-arts-in-management And here's a link to their full program page: http://www.apu.apus.edu/academic/programs/masters APU students are also active online, and if you're on Facebook you should definitely check them out: http://www.facebook.com/AmericanPublicU You'll find that students and alumni are really energetic and willing to talk to you, they love helping perspective students and sharing their experiences both with the university and their experiences post-graduation. Also, check out http://www.onlinedegreereviews.org/ to compare any programs you may be considering, it's a great tool. Either way, best of luck, and please let me know if I can help you with anything! Nicole nendres@apus.edu
