Will this masters degree help me
Will this masters degree help me?
I'm currently getting my Human Resource Management bachelors degree. I'm thinking about getting a master's degree. I wanted to get a human resources masters degree, but there aren't any available online. However, the MBA is offered. Would an MBA help me in work with human resources? Would I even be able to go get an MBA with my bachelors being HRM?

1) There are indeed MA/MS degrees offered online in Human Resources. Some from some very good colleges.(Central Michigan, Colorado State, Clemson, East Carolina, Western Carolina, Indiana State, Kansas State, Penn State, U Ct., U OK., UTexas, Boise State, Boston U, SUNY-Buffalo, Florida State, Middle Tennessee State, NC State, SUNY-Stony Brook, U Illinois, U Wisconsin, Webster U) Bellevue even has their PhD in Human Capital Management (HR) significantly online. HR is one of those subjects where graduate study and online study are ideally suited since at this level you will be conducting considerable research on your own time. 2) An MBA in HR will be just as useful, possibly more useful, as an MA/MS in HR unless you want to teach college later - in which case you'll want a PhD and the MA/MS is a better path to the PhD. Make sure you need another degree in HR at all. If you really like the field then it might be useful but the BA in HR and the MA/MS in HR both qualify an entry level generalist. You might be better served, since you will have the bachelor's in the field already, looking at a specialist master's degree in an HR subfield such as training, labor relations, I/O Psych - Org Behavior, etc. Getting the MBA would open your options beyond the HR function but it too is a generalist degree. The MBA only has true value (unless it's from a top school) when combined with relevant work experience leading to a senior management position. 3) Yes, you should be able to get into an MBA program from HR depending on your GPA and GMAT scores. The best programs will require that you have some work experience first. The MBA is designed for people that don't have an undergraduate degree in business but need the business administration education.

Would a masters degree in loss prevention allow me to gain employment as a loss prevention manager or better?
First let me tell you all about my background. I have 4 years of service in the US Army and I am currently serving in the Air National Guard. I have graduated from college with a bachelors degree in Criminal Justice. I then worked 6 months as a shift supervisor at a CVS drug store which is the extent of my retail experience. I also have experience in law enforcement as a police officer (which was not a good fit for me or my family) and I am currently working as a probation and parole officer (much better fit) while serving in the Air National Guard. This is the problem. My family is a one income home and money is rather tight. I am not making the income that I feel I need to make as a probation and parole officer ($30,000.00 a year). I have heard others say that there is good money in loss prevention, but please understand I am not talking about being a store detective/investigator. I am refering to a position as a loss prevention manager at the store level, district level, or regional level. I am planning to use some extra college money I have coming to me from the military to earn a masters degree in loss prevention. Here is the main question. If I was to get a masters degree in loss prevention, would I be able to gain employment in loss prevention management at the store level or better without starting in an entry level position such as a loss prevention store detective/investigator???? I could not afford to make less than what I make now. What is the salary like in these positions? I know I have only had 6 months in retail as a shift supervisor, but I think my time as a police officer and especially my time as a probation and parole officer has given me the opportunity to look into the criminal mind which might help me with employment. Any advice about employment in loss prevention with a masters degree a masters degree, gaining employment in management, and anything else related to this would be appreciated. Please help me out. I manage a store for a leading drugstore chain in America and I can tell you that the district loss prevention supervisors make probably about 40-45k give or take. It certainly isn't a bad job to have, as you get a company car, and they don't seem to have too difficult of a workload. Then, of course, you can move up to corporate level, but obviously the higher you get, the narrower the funnel gets and more and more people are competing for less slots. Good luck.

I am a professional musician with a Masters degree transitioning into Business Management
I am a professional musician with a Masters degree transitioning into Business Management...?
I will have a Bachelors in Business Management in a couple of weeks. After 2 years of being a stay at home mom, occasionally performing as a musician, I have no idea where to begin in Business Management. I have a ton of experience working with others as a leader and team member but because it is in the music industry, employers do not see my experience as justified. I am a hard worker who gives 110% on the job if I can be given an unbiased consideration. I forgot to mention- I am a Marine wife which means it is likely that I will move within 3-4 years in every location. I have been a private teacher for over 14 years but to network takes at least a year in any given area. I have looked into working from home for LEGITIMATE businesses in order to maintain a career- benefits are not an issue. Just a career! Any suggestions?? Thanks!

Have you ever thought about consulting in the music industry to help people/bands/grounds run the business side effectively? That's a left brain/right brain combination and many musicians don't have that combination of skills.

I have a bachelors degree in public admin, and a masters in organization management, can anyone suggest any employment opportunities in Los Angeles County.

wow... i have a BS in Organizational Mgt - and guess what i'm doing right now? substitute f'ing teaching. seriously - no man in his mid 30's should ever walk where i've walked. it's tough baby- working in l.a. is a nightmare. and jobs expect more and more...

I don't know what part of LA County you are in but if you go to a WorkSource location, which is part of the EDD, they can give you information on different websites and they help you with resumes and how to do interviews. I have this one phone number, 213-629-5800. If that is not close to you, I'm sure they can give you an office near you. They have helped me and I hope this will help you.

Unfortunately, having a bachelors and masters tend to be of no help for getting a job in your field in Los Angeles and elsewhere. I don't know a single college graduate who is actually working in the field they studied for. For awhile, just about anybody could get a job in Silicon Valley in a computer company, but they had a huge crash and burn more than a year ago that wiped out 2/3s of the jobs. I'd suggest getting into a temp agency and hoping that some company you are temping for will remember you when they find it necessary to get a new person. They'll have to pay a headhunter's fee to the temp agency, so you will really need to stick into their mind as a good worker. Oh, and to titna_07 - the questioner said 'county', not country, nor do any of the answers use 'country'.

My advice is to focus less on your credentials and more on what you can do and what you enjoy doing. For most jobs degrees are usually just technicalities - its what you have actually done and what you can actually do that really count. I would also suggest concentrating on what you *really* (deep in your heart!) enjoy doing. If you enjoy doing something you'll be very, very good at it. You'll also be happy and that's gotta be worth something! Good luck! :-)
